Tomorrow’s
futuristic home will have smart TVs, wi-fi-connected refrigerators or
location-based lighting, and the interest for such gadgets, appliances and
electronic fixtures that interface with the home network and let people manage
their lives from one tablet screen, keeps on growing.
Known as the
‘Internet of Things’, this phenomenon kicks up a wide variety of options by
allowing these common tools to communicate over the Internet. How would you
like turning on your heating just before you arrive home from work, for
instance, or checking if your plants require watering while you are away on
vacation?
However, this
set up may also expose people to a bigger risk than ever before, as not only
does it mean a hacker could now sequester your data, they can also seize
control over your domestic properties...
